Google Maps for tradespeople: profile, reviews, photos

When someone searches “electrician Prague”, Google often shows a map with a few businesses before the normal results. Being in it is free and, for local businesses, often matters more than the website itself.

A Google Business Profile is for businesses that meet customers in person at their location or travel to meet them. Online-only businesses are not eligible.

Create a business profile

A Google Business Profile is free. Google determines which verification methods are available based on your business type, public information, region and business hours. You’ll see the available options in your profile; Google’s verification guide explains the current process.

Fill in everything

  • Main category. Choose the one that says most exactly what you do, then add secondary ones.
  • Service area. If you travel to customers, list towns and districts instead of an address.
  • Services. Describe each in one sentence.
  • Phone and opening hours. The same as on your website.
  • Website. Link a page that answers what people search for.

Photos

A few real photos of finished jobs make a difference. Do not use photos from the internet; customers recognise them.

Reviews

Ask happy customers for a review right after the job, while they remember it. Answer reviews, including the poor ones, factually and politely. Do not buy reviews or write your own; Google removes them.

The same details everywhere

Name, phone and e-mail should be identical on the website, the profile and directories such as Firmy.cz. Differences confuse Google. More on search in local SEO for small businesses.
