How to choose a web designer: 8 questions before you order
A good web designer answers every question below clearly and without dodging. If one is missing or the answer sidesteps, that is information.
- 1. Can I see specific work? Links to finished sites, not just pictures. Beware of invented references.
- 2. What will it cost and what does the price include? The price should be knowable in advance, in writing, including what is not in it.
- 3. Who will own the domain and the content? You.
- 4. When will I see the first design? With us within three hours of the call, free. Deciding after seeing is different from deciding before.
- 5. How fast will the site be on mobile? Ask for measurements, not a promise.
- 6. Who looks after the site after launch? Hosting, backups, fixes.
- 7. What if we part ways? Do I get the site and the access?
- 8. Who is my contact? One person who replies.
Warning signs
- A price “on request” with no range at all.
- A promise of first place on Google. Nobody can give one.
- No links to finished work.
- A contract that gives you neither the site nor the domain.
What we do
We publish estimated prices in how much a website costs for a tradesperson. The design is free and without obligation. The difference between custom and template is in this article.
